Dr. Jovana Lekovich
Hi there! I’m Dr. Jovana Lekovich, a double-board certified reproductive endocrinology and infertility specialist and an OBGYN based in NYC.
I was born and raised in former Yugoslavia. I know what associations this brings (to those of you who remember the 90-ies). Yes, I have survived through couple of wars in my childhood/youth, and that experience made me strong, powerful and taught me to never give up. You might say that I am relentless in my pursuits.
I graduated from School of Medicine University of Belgrade and moved to New York where I completed my OBGYN residency at Cornell University – New York Presbyterian Hospital. I loved the place so much, that I have decided to stay there for my subspecialty training in REI as well.
I have joined RMA of NY upon graduation from fellowship, and have been part of it since. Guess you can say that I am a New Yorker, after living here for the past 18 years. I have established the Oncofertility Program at Mount Sinai, and was appointed Assistant Professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Science. Besides treating all aspects of infertility, I specialize in fertility preservation (both medically indicated, as well as preventative) and family building for the members of the LGBTQ+ community.
My husband and I have known each other since high school (Deseta Beogradska Gimnazija “Mihajlo Pupin”). We have 2 sons who happen to be identical twins. They were not conceived via IVF (even though I get that question a lot). Twins conceived via IVF are typically fraternal (or dizygotic; non-identical), and why IVF used to result in many twin pregnancies was because of multiple embryos being transferred at once. That practice has been largely abandoned for the past 10 years (at least), due to our ability to select a healthy embryo and transfer only one at the time. I am an avid tennis player, and love to ski, snowboard, travel, play piano and guitar in my spare time.
My missions in life are:
- to be a good mother, wife, sister, daughter and friend
- to help as many patients as I can, using evidence-based medicine and scientifically-proven treatments
- to disseminate medical knowledge and truth and dispel inaccurate/wrong information (you can follow me on Instagram)
- to teach and train medical students, OBGYN residents and REI fellows
- to live life to the fullest, as only a fulfilled and happy person can adequately help and take care of others
- to be the one standing strong in times of adversity
